REPORTS 2008
Beaumont
Running Club Race
Report The weather
wasn't too cold or too hot but generally the
conditions were windy!!! We had a positive turnout
with some great results ...brilliant! Phil lead
around a strong Beaumont team with back up from 9
other men. It was great to see Ian and Jill back
again (supported by Ysa and Danny Ray). New comer
Phil Pell finished high up the field on his debut
league race. Jon Bott and Mark Whitfield took on
the challenge of running to the race, racing well
together and then running home. Madness or marathon
training? And then it was great to see the Vaughans
back on form after their efforts in the Leicester
Marathon. Steve Sayers had a good run after injury
and it was nice to have support from Mike Higgot ,
Frank Lusk and Andy Burnett . In the ladies
race, Debbie lead home a strong women's team. Gina
was on home territory and that reflected in her
brilliant time, and Wendy and Jackie finished more
or less neck and neck. Heather Jennings returned on
good form. Lesley is returning back to fitness
after her broken toe. Well done Vicky and Audrey
for your debut at Barrow - not the best course or
day to wean you in to the winter league!!!
Thank you to
everyone who took part and well done! And special
thanks for Carol and Nicki who did the
registrations and for the injured non-runners that
turned up to support and Trev for taking the money
and recording our results. Beaumont
Running Club Race
Report British Masters
Gordon Lee, and Hermitage's Gemma Steel were the
individual winners of the Markfield 10km race.
A total of 490
runners turned out in ideal conditions for road
racing over the scenic but tough course around the
picturesque countryside surrounding the villages of
Markfield and Thornton. A successful
day with no hiccups, A good turn out from everyone
to marshal the course and help to set it up. Thank
you to everyone. And following
the good start to the year, another successful win
from the women, now dominating the league in both
the ladies and vets. Well done to Debbie, Wendy,
Jackie, Heather, Nicola, Lesley and Vicki - keep up
the hard work! In the men's
race, Phil lead home the men finishing in 3rd, with
Ian close on his tail. Next in was Steve Sayers,
Jon Bott, Mark Whitfield, Andy Machin, Mark
Ritchie, Steve Ellis and Mike Higgott. It's nice to
see both Steves back in action. Currently the men
are 6th in Division two. Well done
everyone who helped, marshalled (and/or made their
parents marshal) and - not least - the
runners! Beaumont
Running Club Race
Report What a great
race it was yesterday - 18 Beaumonters on the
startline - 8 ladies and 10 men - with no injuries!
There were some great performances too!!! Perfect
conditions, sun and a light breeze and not too many
nasty climbs! In the women's
race, Debbie lead home the team. Wendy was 8th,
first V45 and Jackie, 11th, retained her victory in
the V50 category. Nicola made an impressive start
to the winter league coming home in 29th position.
Brand new member Asia also had a fantastic run and
her debut brought her home in 66th place. Well done
to Audrey, Vicky and Nicki too - the women's team
is building and it's GREAT!!!!! Unfortunately we
just missed 1st place yesterday (Gina, Heather and
Diana we need you!!!!) but we are still the current
league leaders in both the senior and V
categories. Ian Murdey lead
the men home, and next in was Andy Jones return to
the race scene with a brilliant performance of
31.16. Next was a tired Mark Whitefield who had ran
20 miles the day before, but still managed a PB.
Well done! Mike Townsend was next in, followed
closely by Shailesh - both of which were their
first winter league races this year. After Shailesh
was Barry Coleman, Hiten Laad, John Baldwin, Trevor
Coe, and Frank Lusk. Thank you and
well done everyone. We only have 2 more races left
and its great to see both teams building. Thanks
again for the supporters and Elle - this is much
appreciated!!!! Footnote by
Web Janitor: Debbie's report doesn't mention
that she stands 1st in the Winter League, after 3
races. Wendy Joy stands 3rd and Jackie Davisworth
5th. And Ian Murdey is in 4th postion in the Men's
competition. Flickr pix

Running Club Race
Report These races
come around quickly! Yesterday's Wolvey 5 was the
7th race on the trot for many runners. The
conditions were ideal again. Although described as
a flat course, it had a few hills and some long
drags! The girls were
battling it out with Barrow for 1st place, and
unfortunately Barrow claimed victory (grit teeth .
. . well done Barrow!). We now stand equal with
them, so Desford 10K in 3 weeks will be the
decider. We need as many women as possible out to
race please. Even if you think you are not good
enough, we appreciate all runners and every one of
you is very important - it doesn't matter what
standard you are. The girls team
camaraderie is building: new comers Nicola and Asia
look like they are really enjoying themselves, both
running PB's again, with both girls carving off
minutes from their Ashby performances. Audrey,
Nicki and Vicky also had good performances too. The
team managed 2nd place with Debbie coming home in
3rd, Wendy 7th, Jackie 11th and Heather in 21st.
Well done everyone!!! Meanwhile in
the men's race, an amazing 13 men put their toes on
the line. Phil lead home the men and came 2nd ,
after racing the National Cross country
Championships the day before (113th). Here he was
followed by Andy Jones who is returning to fitness
(45 seconds quicker than at Ashby), Alfonzo, who is
returning from a shoulder injury, Jon Bott,
Shailesh, William, Steve Sayers, Hiten, Trev, John
Baldwin, Daniel (his debut), Frank and Andy Burnett
all helped the men get an amazing 4th place!!!!!
Well done! It's really important too, for the men
at Desford. We need to make sure that as many
runners as possible turn out for the race to avoid
relegation! We are 2nd from the bottom, so please
encourage others to turn out. Thank you to all
runners and supporters - it really does help and
appreciated! Special thanks Zoe and Rory! I'll make
cakes for Desford 10k - you can only have one if
you run though!!!!!! And thanks to
Dave and Nicki Little for getting the LRRL results
out once again - just six hours after the last
competitor crossed the finish line. Web Janitor
here again: Race reporter Debbie still stands
1st in the Ladies section after 4 races. And now
Wendy Joy is 3rd and Jackie Davisworth

Report Beaumont
Triumph! Brilliant! We
did it. You turned out in your numbers and we ended
the road running winter seasons with great style in
both the men's and ladies' events. 27 of us fought
against the gales and the floods! After Wolvey 5,
Beaumont Ladies were level with Barrow. We
desperately wanted to clinch the title and we did!
10 ladies turned up and put their toe on the start
line in miserable conditions! With terrific
performances from everyone we beat Barrow by
one point and captured victory in the winter
league! Well done everyone. Valuable points were
collected by Debbie, Wendy, Jackie and Heather; and
the team was supported with the ever-improving
Nicola, Audrey and Asia. Helen Carter's first run
for the club went well and she even finished with a
smile on her face! Next in were Vicky and Nicki who
both had good runs - especially in the conditions!
Photo In the men's
team event we put in our strongest performance -
climbing from 7th to 4th in the league! Well done
everyone. I think this just proves that team effort
really works. Once again Phil Chritchlow showed his
talent and determination as he led the men home in
a time of 33:15 less than 24hrs after competing for
Leicestershire in the Inter-Counties. Next home was
Ian, recovering from an Achilles problem in 21st
place, followed in by a strong performance by an
amazing Alfonzo (who cycles from Loughborough to
get to the races) and Andy Jones. Our main pack -
Rahim, William, Shailesh and Andy Machin, Ian,
Peter, and Phil Pell - all grabbed valuable points.
A positive performance also from Roger Moon,
followed closely by Hiten and Trevor. The team
effort was wrapped up nicely with good performances
from Frank, then John Baldwin and Andy Burnett!
Mike Higgot started in spite of a longstanding knee
injury, but had to pull up to avoid more serious
damage. Thanks to Mark
Whitfield who came to support after racing the
Rhayader 20 the day before. And to Steve Ellis who
shouted us all on as he cycled around the route.
Well done
everyone. I really hope you have enjoyed the winter
league and my race reports, and thanks again to
everyone who has supported the races,
especially to Sharon Moon who turns up every week
to take the money, Carol to shout us on, and Dave
and Nicki for doing the results. Photobucket

Running Club Race
Report All I can say
is, if there was a trophy for team support -
Beaumont must be top club! Beaumonters are always
great at supporting races whether they are running
or shouting people on, but yesterday I saw such
good team support around the course and especially
at the end, where a few of our athletes were ill
due to the very hot temperatures. Everyone helped
each other from getting more water, to driving
people to hospital or home! On a serious note: all
athletes are fine. With the event
having suffered from bad weather over the past few
years the athletes were presented with a real taste
of summer running, 29 degrees! We had 20 runners
finish the event. Considering the temperatures
Beaumont Ladies managed to grab 2nd place team on
the day with Wendy, Heather and Nicola picking up
the points. Wendy had a cracking race as did
Jackie. Good performances were also seen by Audrey,
Lesley, Vicky, Asia and Nicki. Well done girls.
In the men's
race, Phil led home a good team of 11 and also
winning 1st V40. Next in was Shailesh who had a
great run, and achieved his best position for club
points! Next in was Steve Sayers and Phil Pell.
Richard Scott followed them, suffering no ill
effects from running the previous day. Then a pack
of Beaumont men finished very closely together,
Pete, Barry, Andy and Daniel, followed by Mike
Higgott and then Christopher Mans - a debut over
that distance! Well done
everyone who ran and thanks to everyone that
supported the event and helped everyone recover and
get home safely. Beaumont
Running Club Race
Report The distance
and the conditions were more managable than at the
Hinckley Half, although some, never satisfied,
grumbled about the 3 mile climb from the start.
In the men's
race: Steve Sayers led home the men with a steaming
64th place overall in 51:09. He was followed by
ever-improving Shailesh who gave a great show and
finished in 81st place. Next, Jon Bott who has been
recently improving over the roads on the Grand Prix
circuit. The team was backed up by John Williams,
running virtually neck and neck with Peter
Hickenbotham. A good performance from Mark Ritchie,
closely followed by Daniel, Trevor and Noel, all
within seconds of each other. Alian Stubbs made a
great effort over the distance, finishing 10th for
the club, followed by Mike Higgott, Keith
Riddleston, Frank, Gareth and Andy Burnett. It was
lovely to see more Beaumont runners on the race
line. In the Ladies
race, Wendy Joy (who is also benefiting from Grand
Prix competition) led home the ladies in a
fantastic time of 52:54 and 4th position - her
highest ever league position finish. Next in was
Jackie, closely followed by Nicola Waite (who is
recent to, but climbing rapidly up, the racing
ladder). Lesley and Vicky worked well together to
come home 4th and 5th, followed in by Nicki and
Jenny Riddleston. Well done
everyone! Lovely to see some returning faces too.
Thanks to all Beaumonters for their support and
encouragement. Beaumont
Running Club Race
Report Well done to
Barrow for organising a good event. There were
clear sign posts to the course right from Barrow
Village itself and apart from the lack of toilets,
the event was very well organised. This race
included the British Masters Championships,
therefore attracted very good runners from all over
the country. Quality competition, together with the
two-lap layout, made good entertainment value for
the spectators. On a pleasant
day and on a flat course twenty -one Beaumonter's
put their toes on the line. In the Men's
race, Phil led home the pack (9th), followed by a
top performance by Ian Murdey (35th) Next home was
Alfonso(132nd), recovering well from his unlucky
spate of injuries. Shailesh(160th) and Mike
Townsend (163rd) raced home together, followed by
Jon Bott (180th) and Terry Vaughan (189th). John
Williams (251st) improves every time he races and
was home in a valuable 8th position for the men's
team. Next in was a pack of three: Daniel (30th)
Trevor (310th) and Mike Higgott (323rd) working
well together. Next home was Frank Lusk (447th)
followed in by Ian Green (489th) - his debut in
Beaumont colours! Andy Burnett was next home just
ahead of ever- improving Gareth Williams (528th).
In the Ladies
race, Wendy (150th and 2nd VL45) led home a strong
team of 5, including Jackie (258th), Vicky(542nd),
Lesley(570th) and Nicki(580th). Well done
everyone.
(Note: these
finish positions are from the preliminary results
and were revised slightly - see results
table) Beaumont
Running Club Race
Report Hilly
Hungarton! The 4th LRRL summer league race on
Wednesday night brought us to Hungarton! This is
one of the hardest races in the summer league but
15 brave Beaumonters took on the challenge. Leading
home the men was Phil Chritchlow in 6th place,
followed by Phil Pell in 36th position. The team
made up for lack of numbers with strong
peformances: next home Michael was recovering from
shin splints. Then Shailesh, Terry Vaughan, Daniel,
Trev, Mark Ritchie, Barry and Frank! Well done.
Unfortunately due to injuries and the holiday
season, only 3 ladies turned up - Wendy once again
leading home the pack backed up by Jackie and
Lesley - well done all. Beaumont
Running Club Race
Report The Penultimate
Summer League Race: Huncote. On a warm humid
evening, Beaumont had its biggest turn out! 8
ladies and 22 men - and some personal record
performances. In the Ladies
race, the team was piloted home by a fantastic run
from Wendy in 32:05, winning first V45, followed
closely home by Jackie, who scooped first in her
category. Next home was Linda Aston, an amazing
performance on her debut in Beaumont colours -
welcome and well done. Then Vicky, getting closer
to her PB. Next Jenny Parkes - again, debut in
Beaumont colours, just ahead of Nicki Little. Jenny
was next home, running around familiar territory
just ahead of Sian Stubbs. It's lovely to see some
new faces - well done girls. In the men's
race, Phil led home the men and won his age group
category, followed in by Phil Pell and Mike
Townsend. Next in was a race between Richard and
Alfonzo, both running well and picking up vital
points for the league Just outside the 32 min
barrier were Steve Sayers, Jon Bott and Shailesh.
Trevor returning from a long layoff had an
excellent run, just outside 35 minutes, followed
closely by Mike Higgott. The chasing pack (Alan
Cox, Barry, Andy Machin and Daniel) all got home in
under 36 mins and literally seconds apart. Many
runner hit personal bests. Roger Moon was next home
followed by Alain Stubbs, and Mark Whitmore, a
debut appearance. Keith was next in, followed by an
impressive race from John Baldwin - who was 2nd in
his age category, Andy Burnett, smashing his winter
league 5 mile times and then Dave Somerville, who
still manages to run very good race with 2 replaced
hips!! Well done everyone. Fantastic turn out,
Brilliant support from Beaumonters around the
course and at the finish, and some amazing personal
achievements |
